YEREVAN. – By and large, there has been no change in Armenia's position. Both in recent years and in the past 25 to 30 years, Yerevan finds that it is necessary to open the borders with Turkey and establish diplomatic relations without preconditions. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated this at Wednesday’s joint news conference with Alexander Schallenberg, the visiting Austrian Minister for European and International Affairs.
According to Mirzoyan, the Armenian side has now entered the respective process with the same expectations.
The FM noted that so far just one meeting of the special representatives of Armenia and Turkey has taken place.
"It could not include many substantive issues. But there are signs that the process will be successful. However, this is the matter that does not depend on the position of [solely] one party," the Armenian Foreign Minister added.
