The Nagorno Karabakh conflict is not a territorial dispute, but an issue of rights of the Nagorno Karabakh Armenians to live in safety in their motherland, Chairman of the Armenian National Assembly Alen Simonyan said.

His remarks came at a meeting of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

"We believe that the co-chairmanship of the OSCE Minsk Group should play a key role in advancing the peace process of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement. At the same time, we urge the Azerbaijani leadership not to undermine steps towards ensuring stability and peace in the South Caucasus by their bellicose and maximalist rhetoric.

Armenia is committed to peace and prosperity in the region and has repeatedly reiterated its readiness to begin negotiations on the settlement of relations with Azerbaijan. For the sake of comprehensive peace, we have supplemented the agenda with our proposals and submitted it to the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

There has been progress on border delimitation and security - the first meeting of the Deputy Prime Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan on the Armenian-Azerbaijani interstate border was recently held in the format of joint work of commissions on these issues.

We believe that practical steps on the opening and unblocking of roads, transport and economic communications in the region should be carried out with respect for the principle of territorial integrity and sovereignty of the countries through which they pass, and be subject to the legislation of that state.              

At the end of my speech I would like to note that no matter how urgent the priorities of the development of the Organization voiced by Armenia may be, the results can be achieved only through joint efforts aimed at further strengthening the collective security system, constructive and fruitful cooperation and dynamic development of allied relations between the member states," said Simonyan.
