Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Director Samantha Power during the 77th session of the UN General Assembly. the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.

The interlocutors noted with satisfaction that the Armenian-American relations based on common democratic values are steadily developing, enriching the bilateral agenda with new content. Minister Mirzoyan reaffirmed the Armenian Government's commitment to democracy and protection of human rights, as well as the readiness to continue the reforms program.

Minister Mirzoyan and Samantha Power touched upon the programs implemented by USAID in Armenia and exchanged views on the perspectives of the implementation of new joint programs. The sides stressed the importance of the joint work carried out by the U.S. Government's reforms program and development of institutional capacities in Armenia as well as the importance of further expansion and development of cooperation in those spheres.

In the course of the meeting the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs presented the latest aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia and the situation resulted from it.

In the context of counteracting Azerbaijan's maximalistic and aggressive behavior, the international community's targeted condemnation of Azerbaijani aggression and the importance of taking effective measures to prevent possible aggressions in the future were stressed. Ararat Mirzoyan also stressed that the Republic of Armenia will defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
