Armenia wants to have the country with the borders established during the creation of the CIS in 1991 and for peace to be made; the country is going for it, has nothing to concede. Gagik Melkonyan, a member of the ruling majority Civil Contract Faction of the National Assembly (NA) and former deputy minister of defense of Armenia, announced this to reporters in the NA Tuesday.

"The task is set that we sign a peace agreement by the end of the year; but no one knows whether or not it will happen. The major powers have told us that, ‘You should sign that agreement by the end of the year. But after Luxembourg, [Azerbaijani president] Aliyev stood and said in Astana that it is Russia that stopped the [Nagorno-Karabakh] war [in the fall of 2020], started to dare. It can be seen from all this that we are unlikely to sign a peace agreement before the end of the year," said Melkonyan.

According to him, Armenians should come to understand that they themselves will fight for their country, and no one will come here to fight for them.

"That's why our people must unite, and we can get our country out of this situation," the Armenian lawmaker added.

And when asked which proposals are more favorable for Armenia, the West's or Russia's, Melkonyan answered: "The favorable is that we can drive the enemy out of our borders, we can keep the borders of our country. Today, international organizations are already forcing Azerbaijan. It depends on the records of the European observers [in Armenia] that these actions should be carried out. The US, France have told [Azerbaijani troops currently in Armenia] to 'go back to your previous positions.'"
