The government has brought to the National Assembly a draft law on raising the minimum wage as of January 1, 2023 in Armenia. Accordingly, the basic wage will also increase, and therefore the wages of state employees in the public sector will increase by a certain proportion. Tigran Khachatryan, Minister of Finance, told this to reporters in the National Assembly Monday—and reflecting on the fact that the bonuses of the state apparatus have been reduced by 25 billion drams in the 2023 state budget draft, but the salaries have increased by 25 billion drams.

"Two things happened when we were recalculating those base salaries. They are partially funded by the net increases that the government will add to the payroll, and these are 21 billion drams for 2023. And a part, which was a bonus in the past, will be recalculated as a salary; that is, what we used to call 'bonus' will be a part of the salary of those workers. They will receive more than they received before; and a part of what they received before, which was called 'bonus,' will be called 'salary' from now on. If before the bonuses of civil servants were 30 percent of the payroll, next year it will be 16 percent,” said the minister.

"Salaries will increase almost twice as much more than bonuses have become salaries," he added.
