The matter of extending the mandate of the Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh was discussed during the meeting between the leaders of the Russian Federation, Armenia and Azerbaijan in Sochi, Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced.

Answering the question of how ready Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is to sign the document on extending the mandate of the aforesaid Russian peacekeepers for 10-20 years, Putin noted that the matter had been discussed.

"We talked about it. It will depend on the other questions you just asked—from the possible conclusion of a peace treaty [between Armenia and Azerbaijan] and delimitation, demarcation of the [Armenian-Azerbaijani] border. If these issues are resolved, the question of peacekeepers will be put differently. If they are not resolved, or if they are resolved to some extent, then the fate of our peacekeeping contingent will depend on it. But in any case, both sides thanked Russia for the work we are doing there," Putin concluded.
