At the start of Thursday’s Cabinet meeting of the Armenian government, PM Nikol Pashinyan reflected on Tuesday’s statements made by Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev.

He noted that these statements are proof once again that the geopolitical ambitions of the Azerbaijani authorities continue to be a threat to the security and stability of the South Caucasus and the region.

"That non-targeted speech addressed to the international community and full of targeted insults addressed to Armenia, where the president of Azerbaijan tries to accuse Armenia and our government of not fulfilling the agreements and obligations, proves the diametrically opposite.

Moreover, Aliyev's statements are made on the day after the meeting in Washington—by mediation of US Secretary of State [Antony] Blinken—of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan and discussions on a possible peace treaty, when the delegations of the parties had not even managed to return to their capitals,” the Armenian premier noted.

Pashinyan considered Aliyev's aforesaid statement infamous, and emphasized that with it, the leader of Azerbaijan grossly violated the written agreement recorded in the tripartite statement adopted in Sochi, Russia, a few days ago, to refrain from the use of force and the threat of use of force.

"Contrary to the statements of Sochi and Prague, the leader of Azerbaijan voices his ambitions for the sovereign territory of Armenia—with an obvious motive to terrorize the civilian population, with the threatening use of the names of a number of Armenia’s settlements and other names," said Pashinyan.
