Azerbaijan must respect the ties of Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia. Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn said this at a joint press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Yerevan.

"At a meeting with Ararat Mirzoyan, I better understood the conflict and its consequences. Lachin blockade and gas and electricity outages. Luxembourg and its European partners called on Azerbaijan to allow free movement through the Lachin corridor in accordance with the statement of November 9, 2020. I see no reason to close the doors, the corridor for people, residents of Nagorno-Karabakh to move around. It is a connection with Armenia, it must be respected. Azerbaijan must respect it in order to find a solution," the Foreign Minister said.

According to the minister's assessment, the talks that began in 2021 with Pashinyan, Michel and Aliyev seemed to have stopped. "They had a good development. Luxembourg promotes the resumption of trilateral negotiations to achieve a lasting peace. We are also facilitating the EU mission, which will last two years. At first it will be 100 observers. It will also strengthen RA-EU relations, bring Armenia closer to the EU. The mission can play a positive role, reduce risks and incidents. And it can be an important stimulus for the normalization of relations. Luxembourg also has a representative in the mission. It's a very experienced policeman who is ready to help," Asselborn said.

As it was previously reported, the EU civil mission started on February 20. It includes German police officers and French gendarmes.
