There are six judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) against Azerbaijan, which refer to Armenian issues. Yeghishe Kirakosyan, the representative of Armenia for international legal affairs, told this to a press conference Monday.

"The first of these is the verdict in the case of [Armenian military officer] Gurgen Margaryan being axed [to death by Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov in 2004 in Hungary]. The rest of the verdicts refer to [Armenian] civilians who were either killed or tortured, then died or were maimed after coming under Azerbaijani control in completely peaceful conditions," said Kirakosyan.

Also, he informed that at the moment there are four cases of Armenia vs. Azerbaijan at the ECtHR. The first case refers to the incidents that took place in the two months—December and January—following the 2020 war, the second refers to Azerbaijan’s illegal trials of captured Armenians, the third is about the presence of the armed forces of Azerbaijan in the sovereign territory of Armenia and the resultant violation of human rights by Azerbaijan, and the fourth case includes the incidents in Parukh village of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) in March 2022, the natural gas cuts in Artsakh by Azerbaijan, and the ongoing developments at the Lachin corridor.

"Regarding the illegal trials against 33 [Armenian] captives confirmed by Azerbaijan, the terms of the court's decisions to apply interim measures regarding some boys have expired, but they continue to be kept in prison. All possible efforts with legal tools have been made. Unfortunately, at the moment we do not have anything additional to do in this regard. If we find new facts, we submit them to the court," Kirakosyan said.

He added that the Azerbaijani trial of captured Armenian servicemen was staged in order to keep these soldiers in Azerbaijan for a certain period of time.
