In the field of wishes, I have very big wishes regarding the future and territories of Armenia, surely what you imagine will be smaller and limited than what I imagine, but I have no right to leave realpolitik because we need to understand what the situation is in the world today. Ruling force Gevorg Papoyan told reporters this on Wednesday, referring to the question of what opinion Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan's political teammates have regarding the matter that Armenia, recognizing the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, recognizes Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) also as part of Azerbaijan.
"Our people, the authorities, and the political system must make a choice: peace or war? Moreover, war against Turkey and Azerbaijan. Also taking into account the current situation of Russia, imagining what the size of its possible assistance could be. You also know what the world thinks about the Artsakh conflict. You know what the world thinks about territorial integrity and self-determination of nations," Papoyan said.
"In this situation, we have to make a decision: do we go to a new war with Turkey and Azerbaijan with predictable consequences stemming from that? Or do we go on the path of peace, protect the independence, sovereignty of Armenia, security of the Armenian people, the right of the Armenian people to live in Artsakh? This is important," the Armenian ruling force lawmaker added.
"We have to make a choice between war and adventurism and peace. War and adventurism will lead to the risk of loss of Armenia's independence and the emergence of the most serious problems of territorial integrity, multiple losses. We believe that it is necessary to proceed with the peace agenda, which has no alternative. There is no other option on the agenda," said Papoyan.
The Armenian ruling force legislator said that he heard the opposition MPs yesterday, but, according to him, their statements were about nothing.
"Yesterday I was listening to opposition MPs. I wanted to hear something suggestive, something good, that we should go and discuss it in the party, say that ‘they said something like this, maybe we should try this, too.’ Unfortunately, they proposed nothing. Their proposals were either about nothing or indirectly about a new war and losses. Maybe this is convenient for some of them because their issue is to govern Armenia, not the Republic of Armenia, whereas Armenia can also be a part of any third country, with any status. For me, the most important thing is the existence of the Republic of Armenia," stated Gevorg Papoyan.
