Iran's policy towards Armenia is a principled policy. Our policy is to develop and expand our cooperation, interaction with our neighbors, including Armenia. Iran's ambassador to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani, told this to reporters at the Iranian embassy in Armenia Friday.

Regarding the remark that one of the two presidential candidates in Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, is an Azerbaijani by nationality, Sobhani said: "Our fundamental policy does not change with the change of governments. In their speeches, all presidential candidates emphasized their adopted policy of developing relations with neighboring countries, including Armenia. I must note that Iran has a very large population and representatives of various nations live there, but this cannot affect the principled and national policy adopted by the country. They all think like that and act like that."

The ambassador assured that Iran was, is, and will be a friend of Armenia.

"Relations with Armenia will further develop within the framework of the newly created government [in Iran]. The fundamental policy of each country is based on national and mutual interests; that principle does not change. You should not be affected by the inaccurate advertisements being publicized by many media outlets,” said Mehdi Sobhani.
