The Armenian side was in a hurry to renew the Margara checkpoint on the border with Turkey because there was an agreement with the Turkish side that the checkpoint shall operate for citizens of third countries and persons with diplomatic passports. Chairman of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) of Armenia, Rustam Badasyan, informed about this while speaking with reporters at the National Assembly Monday.

"We have created conditions that are sufficient to serve the flow of people of the mentioned group," Badasyan added.

The chairman of the SRC, however, did not give details about the operation of this checkpoint and some other arrangements, and advised to ask the Armenian foreign ministry in that regard.

When asked whether only Armenians will work at this checkpoint or whether there will be representatives from the Turkish side as well, Badasyan responded that such a thing is excluded.

"Only the customs authorities of Armenia carry out customs control in the territory of Armenia," he said.

Also, Rustam Badasyan informed that about 800 million drams were initially spent to renew the Margara checkpoint.

"We initially planned 800 million drams, but the final costs amounted to a little more than 1 billion drams," said Badasyan.
