I don't think that during the discussion, if there is an opportunity to return captives or take a positive step for Armenia in any other way, we should delay and not take such a step. Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, stated this while speaking with reporters at the NA Monday—and addressing the question of whether the return of Armenian captives in Azerbaijan could help Armenia accept the invitation and go to the Azerbaijani capital Baku to attend the COP29 climate conference.
"Let’s see," added Simonyan.
And regarding the remark that there is a point of view that Azerbaijan will not sign the peace treaty with Armenia because it is not in its interest, Simonyan said: "I don't want to rush, to get ahead in any way, but we will persistently continue and work in that direction. During this time, there have been many situations where it really seemed that the situation is deadlocked, but we sat down, discussed word by word; that is our job, and we moved forward with small steps.
