Negotiations on the draft peace treaty with Azerbaijan have not reached an impasse. Artur Hovhannisyan, secretary of the ruling majority Civil Contract Faction of the National Assembly NA) of Armenia, stated this during the briefings in the NA Friday—and when asked about a possible impasse of the aforesaid negotiation process in the light of the new preconditions announced Thursday by Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev.

According to the Armenian ruling force MP, the negotiation process continues, and therefore it has certain difficulties.

"There are controversial points, the discussions on which are more complicated and require some time. But we [i.e. Armenia] are not talking about an impasse and continue the negotiation process; this process always exists," said Hovhannisyan.

As for the various statements made by the president of Azerbaijan, the Armenian lawmaker did not consider it appropriate to comment on them.

"The main negotiators [of Armenia] continue their work with Azerbaijan, with our international partners, to finalize the peace treaty," Hovhannisyan explained.

Azerbaijani president had stated earlier that it is indispensable to start direct talks with the so-called "Western Azerbaijan" community in order to organize its future "return" to Armenia.
