The fact that Armenia did not have bigger problems in Syunik Province is connected with Iran's position. This was stated by the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, during his press conference Monday—and referring to Iran's position that it will not tolerate border changes in the region.

"If it were not for that position of Iran, then [Azerbaijani president Ilham] Aliyev would not have any hindering circumstances. And Armenia’s authorities would’ve said, ‘Well, what should we do? We will not fight for those mountains, now the fear of war is really great.’ Can this attitude change? Yes, it can," added the second president of Armenia.
