One of the Spanish hikers who were injured in an avalanche on the northern peak of Armenia’s Mount Aragats gave Armenian News-NEWS.am details of what happened.
The hiker said they were reaching the summit when the avalanche started. All that snow fell on them, and they fell about 400 meters down in the avalanche. The hiker thanked for saving them, said today was a bad day for them, and added that they had come to Armenia to ski.
Eight people were injured in the avalanche on the northern peak of Mount Aragats.
The Ministry of Health of Armenia reports that doctors have initially diagnosed them with moderate and mild polytrauma.
Earlier, we reported that at 3:26pm on Tuesday, the crisis management center of the Aragatsotn provincial rescue department of Armenia received a report that an avalanche had occurred on the northern peak of Mount Aragats, an expedition team consisting of nine people was trapped under the avalanche, eight of them had gotten out, but one person was missing.
The Rescue Service reports that one person remains missing.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
A total of 51 rescue workers and two helicopters are involved in the search and rescue operations.
