Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova commented at a briefing today, March 20, on the question of an Armenian journalist about the disinformation spread by the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry in recent days.
“Well, of course, we cannot but be concerned that against the background, as I have already said, of progress, of news about the completion of the agreement on the draft peace agreements between Azerbaijan and Armenia, recently, unfortunately, reports of increased tension on the border of the two countries have also become more frequent. Of course, we urge our partners to show restraint, to avoid any actions fraught with escalation of the situation. All emerging issues should be resolved exclusively through peaceful, political and diplomatic methods. And, of course, we are in favor of Baku and Yerevan returning as soon as possible to the implementation of the set of trilateral agreements at the highest level of 2020 and 2022.
Now as for Russia's commitments towards Armenia within the CSTO and in the bilateral format, they are still in force, everyone knows it very well. At the same time, the freezing, I remind, by Yerevan itself of its membership in the CSTO, I think, does not contribute to Armenia's security, which is also obvious,” Zakharova said.
