Yerevan continues to insist on the possibility of signing a peace agreement with Baku soon, and expects a response. RA Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan said at a briefing.

Commenting on reports of shooting on the border from the Azerbaijani side, Kostanyan referred to the Defense Ministry's clarifications that “the shots are not directed against Armenia.” Nevertheless, the Foreign Ministry believes that there is a need to de-escalate the situation and in this regard, Armenia has made a number of proposals, including joint investigation of border incidents. Unfortunately, Azerbaijan did not give a response, Kostanyan said, adding that the solution to the situation is signing a peace agreement.

The deputy minister noted that Baku's dissemination of such false messages certainly does not contribute to the improvement of the general atmosphere. Nevertheless, Kostanyan reiterated the Armenian side's readiness to continue negotiations on the place and terms of signing the document. We are waiting for a response from Azerbaijan, the official said

When asked whether the place of signing is of fundamental importance for Armenia, Kostanyan said that Armenia does not prefer one or another capital at the moment. Signing is important for Armenia, other issues are subject to discussion and are secondary, he added.

Kostanyan refused to comment on Azerbaijan's new demands, saying that the RA does not believe that there are obstacles to the signing of the agreement. Our numerous colleagues - organizations, individual states, all members of the UN Security Council, almost all members of the EU, other partners from the Middle East and America - do not see any obstacles either.

Regarding the statements from Baku about “punishing the participants of the Artsakh war” Kostanyan expressed an opinion that they are connected with an attempt to conceal the problem of the organized trial of the prisoners. "Processes that can hardly be called legal - the trial of prisoners and hostages. The international community and RA call to stop these processes and release our compatriots. In response, Az makes such statements," the deputy minister explained. As for the demand to receive hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis, the Deputy Minister assured that there is no such provision in the agreement and no such summons either.
