The visit by the second European expert mission to Armenia started today, and it will last five working days. This was stated by the head of the Migration and Citizenship Service of Armenia, Nelli Davtyan, during a press conference Monday.

“As a result of this, two reports will already be formed, which are the only documents that we will have the opportunity to comment on, we will be able to submit corrections or suggestions. Based on them, an action plan will be formed, developed by June, which will no longer be a negotiable document.

When they have the action plan, although we have a very good idea of what will be written there from the experience of other states, we will be presented with requirements in four cornerstone directions. But already, according to the set targets, we will be able to make more specific predictions about the period required for us to reach that point. One of the most complex infrastructures, which was new for us, was the introduction of the biometric system.

The action plan will be presented to us in June, after which the Republic of Armenia will submit an annual report on where it has reached. In essence, that plan does not have a deadline. It is not that we will be set a task, for example, to ensure such-and-such targets by the second half of 2027. When we ensure [them], then we will have a free [Armenia-EU] visa regime,” added Davtyan.

And when asked how long it will take to achieve visa liberalization, she responded: "We should have four to five years in mind."
