Hungary's position is extremely clear. Hungary's foreign policy is determined by national interests. This was stated by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto during a panel discussion Tuesday within the framework of the Yerevan Dialogue 2025 international forum in the Armenian capital.

First, Hungary. National interests are paramount. There is a severe lack of mutual respect in international politics at the moment, and this may be the reason why supporters of sovereignty and patriots are subjected to such a massive attack, added Szijjarto.

According to the Hungarian FM, there is a complete lack of mutual respect in the international political arena. Watch the debate. As soon as you raise an issue that does not 100% correspond to the liberal current, you will either be considered a right-wing extremist, a fascist, a Nazi, or something else, or you will be considered a Russian spy, a Kremlin propagandist, or a friend of [Russian President Vladimir] Putin.

These are the two extremes you can choose from if you do not fully agree with the liberal current. And this is very sad because it shows that the intellectual level of the international political debate is currently very low... Over the past few years, it has been very difficult to conduct a rational dialogue in the European political arena. After the war started in Ukraine, it became almost impossible, said the Hungarian FM.

Szijjarto noted that this is evident in the discussion of energy. For example, when it comes to energy, which is the most pressing issue in the world because one needs pipelines, ships, natural gas, and oil. And it is obvious that one cannot heat his house with political statements or press conferences—even if the issue is highly politicized, said the Hungarian FM.
