Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, accompanied by National Assembly speaker Alen Simonyan and President Vahagn Khachaturyan, is visiting the Sardarapat Memorial Wednesday on the occasion of the First Republic Day anniversary.

They are accompanied by members of the Armenian government, MPs, and other officials.

Police have been conducting enhanced surveillance on the motorway leading to the Sardarapat Memorial since early morning. A large number of police forces are concentrated in this section, and there are police officers even under the trees.

The Armenian people celebrate First Republic Day anniversary on May 28. On this day in 1918, the Armenian statehood that had been disrupted for centuries was restored. In May of that year, Armenian regular forces and volunteers managed to win life-and-death battles against the Turkish invaders in Gharakilisa, Bash-Aparan, and Sardarapat, stopping their advance and their desire to completely seize Armenia.
