Ambassador: China and Armenia respect each other's national sovereignty and territorial integrity 

Today, on May 30, the Embassy of China in Armenia organized a reception on the occasion of Li Xinwei's appointment as ambassador. The event was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan and ambassadors from several countries.

In his speech, the ambassador emphasized that during his meetings with Armenian officials, he felt the friendly attitude of the Armenian government and people toward China and the Chinese people, as well as the Armenian side's readiness and commitment to further deepen and strengthen the friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

"Over the past 33 years, since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Armenia have consistently adhered to the principles of mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit. Bilateral relations have developed in a healthy and stable manner, ensuring significant outcomes in cooperation across various fields.

The foundation of political mutual trust remains strong. The sides consistently support each other’s core interests and primary concerns. The Chinese side highly appreciates Armenia’s consistent support for the 'One China' principle. China and Armenia, respecting each other's national sovereignty and territorial integrity, provide mutual support on these matters," the ambassador said.

According to him, the friendly interactions between President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan—within the frameworks of the BRICS summit and the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War—have given new impetus to the further development of bilateral relations. Li Xinwei noted that trade volume between China and Armenia continues to grow steadily, reaching 2.8 billion USD in 2024, which is a 34% increase compared to the previous year. "Armenia was among the first countries to respond to and join the 'Belt and Road Initiative'. A number of important programs are being successfully implemented within the scope of bilateral cooperation: the Armenian-Chinese Friendship School is gaining increasing prestige, a solar photovoltaic power plant built by a Chinese company has been successfully connected to Armenia’s power grid, and the construction of the new 8th studio for Public Television—supported by the Chinese government—is progressing smoothly."

The ambassador also announced that the frequency of direct Yerevan–Urumqi flights will soon increase, further facilitating bilateral travel.

"China and Armenia are members of the 'big family' of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). As the current chair of the SCO, China will hold the SCO summit this fall in Tianjin. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is the largest organization in the world. The Chinese side is ready to deepen cooperation with Armenian partners within the SCO framework, jointly building a shared home based on peace, stability, mutual trust, and prosperous development.

Currently, China-Armenia relations are entering an important phase of stable growth and forward-looking development. I am ready to work with our Armenian friends to implement the important agreements reached between the leaders of our two countries, expand and deepen bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and promote new developments in China-Armenia relations. The Embassy of China in Armenia will continue to uphold the principle of 'diplomacy for the people' and protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese organizations and citizens in Armenia," the ambassador concluded.
