Yesterday, an emphasis caught my attention in public discussions, on social media. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at Thursday’s cabinet meeting of the Armenian government—and referring to the actions and searches carried out by the Investigative Committee of Armenia on Wednesday, and the ensuing by several arrests.

“A group of [social media] users recorded that a new October 27 was prevented in Armenia. And another group raised the question of whether the law enforcement bodies of Armenia could have prevented the October 27 terrorist attack in 1999. I believe this is a question whose answer we must also ultimately try to formulate in a reliable way. I hope that our law enforcement system will also make efforts to find an answer to this question,” Pashinyan added.

Earlier, Armenian News-NEWS.am reported that early Wednesday morning, Armenia's law enforcement officers began searches in the homes of supporters of the Sacred Struggle movement. They conducted a search also at the residence of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, leader of the Sacred Struggle movement.

In addition, searches were conducted in the homes of several members of the opposition Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun Party.

The house of Vahe Hakobyan, the leader of the Reviving Armenia party, was searched as well, and his wife was detained.

And the Investigative Committee of Armenia released a statement, according to which the participants and leaders of the Sacred Struggle movement had planned terrorist acts in Armenia. Accordingly, a number of people had participated in the planning, and some former police officers and military personnel were involved, too. Also, the Investigative Committee publicized several respective audio recordings.

And based on the investigator's petition, the supervising prosecutor had made decisions to initiate public criminal prosecution against 16 individuals, which were granted.
