The Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization document and regional transport communications were discussed at the meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan last week in Istanbul, Turkey. Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan announced this during a press briefing after Thursday’s Cabinet meeting of the Armenian government.

"It was recorded that for both Armenia and Turkey, the opening of regional communications, including railways and other communication routes, is of great importance. It is no secret that Turkey seeks to further improve its links to Central Asia. For Armenia, as a landlocked state, it is simply vital to have open borders, and recent events have shown that practically three—if not, three and a half—of our borders were closed in connection with the events taking place around Iran.

"The Crossroads of Peace concept [of Armenia] was naturally presented [at the aforesaid meeting]. In fact, there is a common understanding that Armenia is approaching constructively with its proposals on the opening of communications. Armenia's vision is constructively assessed by our colleagues of Turkey," stressed the deputy FM of Armenia.
