Armenia, being a sovereign state, decides for itself when the right time is to take this or that step. Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan stated this during a press briefing after Thursday’s Cabinet meeting of the Armenian government—and answering the question of what the limit was after which the Armenian government will make a decision regarding withdrawal from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

"Regarding the CSTO, Armenia is not insinuating, but saying in direct text that it cannot stay like this for long. After all, if the [other] CSTO partners, including Russia, do not make political statements which were talked about years ago after the attack on Armenia's sovereign territory [by Azerbaijan], then Armenia will make a final decision," said the deputy FM.

Regarding the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Kostanyan said that Armenia continues to be a member of this union, and at the same time continues to deepen its relations with the European Union countries.

“At the moment when the need will arise to make clear decisions, we will make [them],” he said.

And asked whether Armenia’s current stance on the CSTO makes the country vulnerable, the deputy FM responded: “Do you think we have been less vulnerable being a member of the CSTO?”
