The National Assembly (NA) of Armenia on Tuesday gave its consent, with a vote of 62 in favor none against, to strip Artur Sargsyan, a member of the opposition "Armenia" Faction, of his parliamentary immunity and to launch public criminal prosecution against him.
This was announced a little while ago at the NA by the chairman of the Counting Commission, Narek Babayan.
The two opposition factions did not participate in the vote.
After this secret ballot, another secret vote will be held—this time on granting consent to detain Artur Sargsyan.
Earlier in the day, Artur Sargsyan delivered remarks at the NA sessions’ hall, noted that there was already an order for his arrest and lifting of his parliamentary immunity, and therefore it was better for him not to waste time in the NA, and to voluntarily go the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
The NA on Monday had given its consent by secret vote to strip "Armenia" Faction leader—and former defense minister—Seyran Ohanyan and secretary Artsvik Minasyan of their parliamentary immunity and launch criminal prosecution against them.
