Interference by foreign countries does not contribute to sustainable security in the South Caucasus. Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref stated this, as he commenting on the initialing of a US-brokered peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, in Washington DC on August 8.
"Iran, attaching importance to the strengthening of peace and stability in the region, has welcomed the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and declared its unchanging position to respect the territorial integrity of the countries. It [i.e. Iran] believes that foreign countries’ interference in the affairs of the region will not contribute to sustainable security," Aref said at the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries, being held in Kyrgyzstan.
The Iranian vice president is attending the aforesaid event as a representative of an EAEU observer country.
