Iran has always supported the territorial integrity of Armenia, and this is our policy. We are against the use of force in the region, and we also believe that problem solving by non-regional forces further aggravates the situation in the region. Visiting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated this after his meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, on Tuesday in Yerevan.
Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran wants peace and tranquility for its neighbors, particularly Armenia, and believes that integration and friendship are the best factors for maintaining security and development.
“Peace is a strategic priority for Iran, and we support the peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Iran’s position is that geopolitical changes should not occur in the region, and we believe that these changes can cause geopolitical competition,” Pezeshkian noted.
The Iranian president said Armenia is an important neighbor of Iran, and added that history attests to the deep roots of bilateral relations between the two countries.
“The presence of the Armenian community in Iran, especially in the border regions, testifies to our civilizational and cultural commonality, as well as to the friendship on both sides of the border. Our common border has always been a bridge of friendship and communication between peoples,” Pezeshkian concluded.
