We will follow the path of simplification—not only at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, but also at all our border points—in order to maximally simplify the business environment: export, import, transit, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told reporters on Thursday.

Pashinyan noted that this is important in terms of creating an environment for business activity. In his assessment, the methods—according to which it is indispensable to “touch” people, etc.—will disappear in a few years in all countries, including Armenia, and the latter will follow the path of simplification.

Pashinyan assured that the Washington declaration of August 8 clearly states five principles on which the agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan is based: territorial integrity, sovereignty, jurisdiction, inviolability of borders, and reciprocity.

“I said in my [recent] address [to the nation] that within the framework of these principles we can, and by the way, when presenting the Crossroads of Peace project, we have spoken also about our readiness to simplify regulations based on these principles,” the Armenian premier noted.

He added that the forms of customs and border control that Armenia was accustomed to in previous decades no longer exist in many developed countries.

“In particular, in the case of the use of biometric passports, completely new procedures are in place. And in accordance with the logic of the development of digital technologies, completely different procedures are in place,” Pashinyan concluded.
