The Armenian-American company will not oversee the road that will pass through the territory of Armenia, but will manage it; that is, it will carry out “business management,” Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated at a press briefing Thursday.

Answering the question of whether Iranian trucks also could pass through that road, Pashinyan gave the example of the Armenian railway, which is under Russian management. He recalled that this railway passes through many settlements and roads, and no Armenian, Iranian, Georgian, or European car has ever encountered problems while passing over that railway. Pashinyan explained this by the fact that this territory is under the jurisdiction of Armenia.

“The five principles that we constantly mention speak of exactly that. They are: sovereignty, jurisdiction, territorial integrity, inviolability of borders, and reciprocity. I want to draw attention to the principle of reciprocity, mutual benefit. We [i.e. Armenia] have never said that we intend to create obstacles to communication between the main part of Azerbaijan and [its] Nakhichevan [exclave]," the Armenian premier emphasized.

Pashinyan explained that the Washington declaration of August 8 states that the advantage of Azerbaijan within the framework of the abovementioned principles is the existence of that link, as well as for Armenia, the ability to connect one part of the country with another, as well as to establish communication with third countries.
