We worked on the statue of Christ for 1.5 to 2 years, the work is 90 percent complete, it will be completely finished when it is assembled on site, said the sculptor of this statue, Armen Samvelyan.

“The work went very normally, the process was very normal, it turned out very normal, the height is 33 meters, the weight—about 17 to 20 tons. The material is aluminum, there is a special paint coating on it, which is very durable. There is a structure inside which is purely for aluminum. But there will be a new structure in place, which will hold all of that there,” said the sculptor.

“Now the installation work has started. I haven’t climbed there, but I have seen with footage what work is being done on [Mount] Hatis, where they allowed the installation of the statue of Jesus.,” said Samvelyan.

He stressed that in his opinion, this statue is a quite successful work.

“People come, look. Many foreigners come, especially from China, look. There is no one who has anything negative to say [about the statue] yet. When it is installed, it seems to me [that] they will come from all over the world, look [at this statue]. It will be one of the ‘business cards’ of Armenia,” said the sculptor.
