We were ready to sign the peace agreement last year. Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, told this to reporters Friday—and regarding the peace agreement with Azerbaijan

Simonyan expressed confidence that Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev's rhetoric has changed. He stated that the Azerbaijani authorities are now somewhat moving away from threats, arrogance and hate speech, and are also talking about peace.

Responding to the comment that at the UN rostrum Aliyev called Armenia an "occupier," the parliament speaker noted that Armenia also calls Azerbaijan an “occupier” in relation to the Lake Sev, Jermuk city, and Tavush Province of Armenia.

And when asked about the possibility of signing a peace agreement with Azerbaijan without changing the constitution of Armenia, Simonyan replied: "I do not rule out anything. We [i.e. Armenia] have our own logic, and I do not intend to enter into [someone else's] logic. If we truly want peace—and right now I sense such a wish from them [i.e. Azerbaijan]—then it is possible."
