Our newborn peace is already one month and 22 days old, and we must take care of it, cherish it, and ensure its growth and strength. In this context, it is also important to clarify the fate of missing persons and resolve the issue of those taken prisoner as a result of the conflict, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated in his address Tuesday at the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

Pashinyan noted with satisfaction that peace has been established between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“I cannot say that this is only the merit of Armenia’s government and the Armenian people. This is equally the achievement of both Azerbaijan’s government and the Azerbaijani people. If it were not so, there would be no peace. This is equally the achievement of the parliaments of both Armenia and Azerbaijan,” he said.

In his assessment, as of August 8, Armenia and Azerbaijan have already done a huge amount of work. In 2024, the more than 12km section of the border between them was delimited for the first time, and the regulation on the joint activities of the border delimitation commissions of the two countries was signed and ratified, in which the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration was enshrined as a fundamental principle.

“However, without the personal participation of US President Donald Trump, without his personal efforts, it would have been impossible to achieve the result that we achieved with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on August 8 of this year [in Washington DC]. (…). This is a historic event that brought peace to our countries. But, as I have already had the opportunity to say, peace is not a vacation or a rest; peace is daily work, peace requires daily care," Pashinyan added, in particular.
