The peace established between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the unblocking of regional transport links, which will undoubtedly happen in the near future, will open up new opportunities for us in the mining industry, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated in his remarks at the Mining Armenia Forum 2025 on Friday.

"The export of copper ore is of great importance for our country and our economy, but we need to think about what we can do to make the agreement to establish an effective copper smelter in Armenia a reality. But this is not the end of the story, as we need to think about further expanding this chain so that copper production, or the production in which copper is widely used, has the same industrial capacities and investments in Armenia," Pashinyan noted.

“The same applies to gold. And this is also an extremely important matter. I would also like to touch upon the need to study our mineral resources, since the knowledge we have is based on information obtained during the Soviet period. Of course, a huge amount of work was done then, and this, of course, should not be underestimated. But exploration technologies have also changed, and much more efficient technologies are now available,” added the Armenian PM.

“We should discuss the launch of a new phase of geological exploration in Armenia. New domains are also being opened, including rare metals, which are developing very rapidly, or at least the interest in them is growing very rapidly,” said Pashinyan.

“The demand for their use in technological production makes it clear that there is a considerable investment potential, and all preliminary assessments seem to indicate that there is still a huge amount of work to be done in this domain in Armenia,” added the premier.
