Let's see what the parties have received from the documents signed in Washington on August 8. The United States has very clearly obtained control over the corridor that will be established in the future, the ability to effectively monitor the Armenia–Iran border, and third, the opportunity to nominate the US president for the Nobel Prize, said Robert Kocharyan, the second President of Armenia, during his press conference Tuesday.

“Azerbaijan has received the right to a corridor through Armenia’s territory, the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group, and the waiver of Section 907 [of the Freedom Support Act of the US]. And what has Armenia received? Honestly, I tried to find any specifics in those documents about what Armenia has gained. Zero. Only problems.

Finally, what has [Armenian PM] Nikol Pashinyan received? Here there is something very concrete as to what the Prime Minister of Armenia has received. He has received one photo signed by [US] President [Donald] Trump, and a piece of paper with no legal force, which enables [him] once again to deceive the Armenian people. That’s the essence of it.

The preliminary conclusion we can draw is that Nikol Pashinyan played a decorative role in the White House. There was a table, there were chairs, there was a picture, there was a flag — and there was Pashinyan there,” Kocharyan said.

Referring to the term “initialing,” the former president of Armenia said: “When two parties negotiate a document, the teams, once they reach an agreement, initial that document. It’s a technical procedure — they initial the document, and then at some later occasion, for example during an official visit, the heads of state sign the initialed documents. Initialing is a technical act.

 For me, it’s completely unclear what ‘initialing’ means with the participation of the heads of state. If everything has been agreed upon, there could not have been a better opportunity to sign those documents right there. This truly raises substantive questions as well,” the second president of Armenia emphasized.
