The “Zangezur corridor” and the North-South Transport Corridor will not compete with each other. Russia’s Security Council secretary, Sergey Shoigu, stated this to reporters after the 13th meeting of the Security Council secretaries of CIS member states, in Moscow, TASS reports.

“I believe that both routes not only have the right to exist, but are also necessary for connecting Azerbaijan with its regions and for creating transport corridors for trade between countries,” Shoigu said.

He reminded that the North-South corridor connects the deep southern ports with the Arctic Ocean and the Northern Sea Route.

“I see nothing bad or competitive in this — [that] someone might bypass or go around something — there is no such thing,” Shoigu noted.

He emphasized that Russia is a vast country with a highly developed transport network, and “any road is always a good thing.”
