Armenia is not considering the matter of leaving the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) at this phase. Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan told this to reporters at the National Assembly Wednesday, referring to Armenia’s policy of not attending CSTO summits while not obstructing its adoption of documents.

Safaryan recalled that Armenia’s position has already been announced: it does not participate in CSTO activities, but does not prevent decisions from being adopted.

“Armenia conducts its foreign policy based on interests according to the evolving situation. Armenia’s balancing policy has been declared, and Armenia makes its decisions within that framework,” the deputy FM said.

Asked why Armenia remains in the CSTO despite not attending  its activities, Safaryan replied: “At this phase, that is the policy. If there will be additional positions or moves, we will inform about them.”

And when asked whether leaving the CSTO is on the agenda of Armenia’s foreign ministry, the deputy minister replied: “Such a task has not been put before us yet. If such developments occur, everyone will know.”

Earlier, it became known that Armenia will not participate in the CSTO summit in Kyrgyzstan on Thursday, but it is not opposed to the adoption of documents to be agreed upon at that event.
