There are “Brussels vampires” who creep up on ordinary people and say, “If you want, we will bite you, and you will become like us: you will not see your reflection in mirrors, you will fear sunlight, you won’t need energy, and so on,” Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated. She noted this while commenting on European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas’ remarks that the EU will allocate 15 million euros to increase Armenia’s resilience to Russia ahead of its parliamentary elections in June, as well as European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos’ statement that the EU will invest 500 million euros in strengthening Armenia’s energy security and diversification to reduce its dependence on Russia.

“EU representatives Kaja Kallas and Marta Kos literally exposed themselves; their statements once again prove that Brussels’ sole aim in relations with Yerevan is essentially to harm Armenia’s relations with Russia,” Zakharova added.

According to her, Brussels has stopped hiding this, or perhaps would like to, but the “intellectual abilities” of European officials prevent them from doing so. “We see [it], and they are saying it again: the European Union is trying by any means to undermine our traditional, mutually beneficial, and mutually respectful partnership in sectors important for Armenia’s economy, including the energy sector. Armenian society has no negative experience with Armenian-Russian energy cooperation. We have infrastructure, mutually beneficial dialogue, and real cooperation,” said the Russian MFA spokesperson.
