During the 12-day war in June 2025, the Israeli Air Force bombed the headquarters of Iran’s state television broadcaster in Tehran.

Israeli authorities had announced in advance that they would strike the area of Tehran where the state television headquarters is located, stating that the goal was to deal a blow to state propaganda.

Following Israel’s warning, most of the headquarters’ staff of more than 300 people were evacuated; however, work continued, and at the moment of the attack a news broadcast was being aired from the studio. Viewers witnessed the attack live on air.

As a result of the bombing, 3 employees were killed. The live broadcast was interrupted for only 30 seconds and then immediately resumed from another location.

The attack on Iran’s state television was condemned by numerous international organizations, including the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), and UNESCO, which described the action as a violation of international law.

The television building has been completely destroyed and must be rebuilt.
