There is no information on the status of Armenians in Iran since Friday. Zareh Sinanyan, High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of Armenia, told this to a press conference Monday.

“There has been no information since Friday, we are unable to establish contact with [Armenian] compatriots [in Iran],” Sinanyan said.

According to him, a similar situation also had occurred last May, when information was received through Iranian Armenians arriving in Armenia.

There is not enough information to talk about evacuation, Sinanyan added, but noted that if there is relevant data, they will raise the matter of evacuation.

The High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of Armenia assured that the problem is the lack of communication. According to him, sending a working group from Armenia to Iran does not make sense, since it is not clear where to send it and for what purpose. First of all, according to him. it is necessary to find out what is happening in the Iranian cities where there are many Armenians.

Speaking about the situation of Armenians living in Syria, Sinanyan noted that the situation there is chronic, and stated that people have gotten used to it. That is why he urged those Armenians to come to Armenia, because “the future in Syria is ‘foggy,’” and quite serious clashes are taking place there.

“We are in touch with our [Armenian] compatriots [in Syria], we know what is happening [there],” added the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of Armenia.
