We are very attentive to the statements coming from Iran. We have done everything and will continue to do everything to dispel all concerns of friendly and brotherly Iran for us, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a press briefing Thursday.

According to him, since 2018, rallies have never been banned anywhere in Armenia. He added that the authorities cannot act differently for an isolated case. At the same time, Pashinyan agreed that forms of expression of opinion should not disrupt the work of the embassy of Iran or any other country.

“We will closely monitor Iran’s concerns and, within the framework of democratic principles, will take all measures to ensure that no problems arise in the activities of the embassy [in Armenia] of the friendly and brotherly Islamic Republic of Iran. Those people who cross the line of the law will be subject to appropriate proceedings. I know that administrative proceedings have been initiated in several cases,” Pashinyan noted.

He explained that Armenian officials have repeatedly stated in their contacts with Iranian colleagues that Armenia will not take any steps against Iran’s national security.

“We expect the same from Iran towards us.,” the Armenian premier added.

Reflecting on to Iran’s statements on the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project, Pashinyan recalled that in August of last year, the Iranian president had visited Yerevan and, according to him, Armenia had answered all questions in that regard during that visit.

“We [i.e. Armenia] have said that if questions arise in the future, we are ready to answer all questions if other questions arise after the published text. During the discussions, we take into account the concerns and opinions of our international partners and try to do our best to come to the most balanced solutions, which I believe was achieved in this case,” Pashinyan noted.

And commenting on US President Trump’s decision to impose 25% tariffs on countries doing business with Iran, the Armenian PM stated that he needs to de jure familiarize himself with the content of this decision.

“We are familiarizing ourselves with the content and, if necessary, will begin consultations with all our relevant partners,” Nikol Pashinyan concluded.
