I have returned to Armenia exactly six months after my last visit in September, but I had already announced that I would return soon. I love coming back because I can see with my own eyes how the transition process is going in Armenia. European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stated this during a joint statement with Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan in Yerevan Thursday.

Kos noted that a lot has happened in those six months that she had been in Armenia, as the world has become more unstable, and this has shown once again why their work in the South Caucasus is so important. It has shown how important it is to have reliable partners and friends, and this is how Europe sees Armenia, she added.

Also, she thanked Armenia for the help in appreciating the European citizens of this region. Kos noted that this is a truly important year for Armenia. In May, the country will host the European Political Community summit, followed by the first EU-Armenia summit, which will demonstrate how important this region has become for Europe and how deep their partnership has deepened.

Trade routes through the South Caucasus are becoming more important than ever, with war raging in the North and the South, added the European Commissioner for Enlargement.
