Armenia understands that membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the European Union is incompatible, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to Pashinyan, railway connections with Russia, as well as imports via Azerbaijan by rail from Russia—and, in the future, exports—are strengthening Armenia’s economic ties within the Eurasian Economic Union.

“As for the European Union, we know that, in principle, membership in the two unions is incompatible. However, under the current agenda we have, they are compatible—this is a fact. And as long as there is an opportunity to combine these agendas, we will do so. When the processes reach the point where a decision must be made, I am confident that we, meaning the citizens of the Republic of Armenia, will make that decision,” Pashinyan said.
