As planned, all the work started at the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial will be completed on April 24. The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan, told this to reporters at the National Assembly Tuesday, regarding the ongoing renovation at the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan.

“If you are interested in what condition the memorial is in at the moment, it is open, it has not been closed on any day, you can visit it now as well and see that we are in the final phase, and in the near future we will also complete the tasks related to the improvement of the territory, and we will be more than ready,” Andreasyan added.

When asked what events will be held on April 24—the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Andreasyan noted that the question should not be addressed to her. “You should probably ask those involved in the day’s organizational work. But the work related to the memorial and the [Armenian Genocide] museum is proceeding as normal. And on April 23, I believe there will be a new exhibition opening at the museum; you can visit, see for yourself,” she added.

The Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan has been undergoing renovation for many months now. And this has raised concerns among some circles in Armenian society that perhaps the actual objective is to demolish the memorial.
