In recent years, there has been a significant increase in investments from the Armenian diaspora to Armenia, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting of the Armenian government.

“During our tours in Yerevan, we met dozens of Diaspora Armenians who unconditionally support the policy pursued by the government of Armenia; this is a very important record,” he added, in particular.

Pashinyan noted that very serious revisions should be made regarding the formulas for perceiving realities.

“The legitimacy factor has not always received special attention, and today many people who claim to speak on behalf of the [Armenian] diaspora have no connection with the diaspora at all. There are some offices, there are groups, there are clubs that claim to speak on behalf of the diaspora. These people are undeniably from the diaspora, but they are not the diaspora. I want to officially say that they are such an overwhelming minority that I definitely say that they are just marginal organizations. The government of Armenia will have less and less to do with these organizations in general, and eventually it will have nothing to do with them at all. (...).

Of course, we, the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs [of Armenia], try to be as inclusive as possible and work with that logic. But we also see this in the course of that work, because communicating with people is about something else, whereas communicating with individuals who have some kind of certificates, issued by someone you don't know, is about something completely different," the Armenian PM added.
