YEREVAN. – The Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan city Kentron and Nork Marash districts considered the preliminary charges of treason against the state to be reasonable. The charges were against Armenian citizens Karen Mehrabyan, Romik Matevosyan and Ashot Chtrkyan. They were sentenced to long time imprisonment.

As preliminary investigation conducted by the investigation department of Armenia’s National Security Service shows, the three mentioned Armenian citizens who were in Turkey in the beginning of 2011, were offered cooperation by the Azerbaijani Special Services. They were assigned to gather information about Nagorno Karabakh Defense Army, about its engineering structures and equipment.

Besides, it was found out that Armenian citizens Karen Petrosyan, Arthur and David Avetikyan knew that Mehrabyan was planning to acquire information for Azerbaijan’s Special Services but did not report to law enforcement forces.

The criminal case was launched on November 15.

The Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan city Kentron and Nork Marash districts considered the charges to be reasonable.

Karen Mehrabyan was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment, Romik Matevosyan to 10 years, Ashot Chtrkyan to 10 years.

Karen Petrosyan and Arthur Avetikyan were sentenced to 1 year and 6 months imprisonment.

David Avetikyan was fined $1,300 because he has an underage child.
