Member of Germany’s Bundestag Katrin Werner (DIE LINKE) released a statement on the Armenian Genocide demanding that the government should implement the 2005 Bundestag decision.

The statement says that each year on April 24 the Armenian Diaspora honors memory of 1,5 million Armenians killed during the WWI in the Ottoman Empire. Germany was Turkey’s ally at that time, was aware of and partially participated in those events, the statement reads.

Werner condoles with survivors and believes that inheritors have a right to demand unconditional recognition of historical facts.

The German government, carrying historic responsibility, should serve a good example and realize its 2005 Bundestag decision.

“Recognition requires explanation of historic facts,” the MP concluded.
