TBILISI. – Georgian opposition MP Jondi Bagaturia and ruling MP Azer Suleymanov fought in the Georgian Parliament over the Armenian Genocide issue on Tuesday.

As the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire is marked on April 24, Bagaturia stated that Georgia has recognized the Circassian Genocide by Russia last year, which is a ‘crime,’ VZGLIAD reports. He believes that Armenians in Georgia demand the recognition of their Genocide. In response, Suleymanov, Azerbaijani by origin, called his colleague not to be mixed with things, which is not his business. After that the MPs started to fight. The parliament Speaker David Bakradze claimed they love both nations and Georgia shares the pain of both of them. However, there is no need to be so emotional.

To note, Armenian NGOs, religious, cultural and educational organizations in Georgia have turned to the President, the Speaker and the head of the capital city council calling to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

The world commemorates on April 24 the 97th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the first genocide of the 20th century.

Commemoration actions are held in all states, people remember this monstrous crime against humanity as over one and a half million innocent Armenians were massacred in the Ottoman Empire, while hundreds of thousands were tortured and deported.

The fact of the Armenian Genocide is recognized by many states. It was first recognized in 1965 by Uruguay. In general, the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey has already been recognized by Russia, France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Lithuania, Slovakia, Switzerland, Sweden, Greece, Cyprus, Lebanon, Canada, Venezuela, Argentina, and 42 U.S. states.
