YEREVAN. – OSCE does not directly observe the pre-election campaign in Armenia. Besides, we are making great efforts so the election process was on the right democratic track, the head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, Ambassador Andrey Sorokin told reporters. To note, through the OSCE Yerevan Office the EU is implementing a program worth € 1.7 million to facilitate the elections in Armenia in accordance with international standards. The OSCE head stated that the structure organizes a number of events in all directions. A memorandum was signed with the Central Election Commission, several trainings were conducted with the police officers, the office published material and provided help to the ombudsman office. “Besides, we not only work in the capital but also in the regions. We have done much work and it is evident,” Andrey Sorokin said. According to him, compared to previous elections, this time significant progress is observed in practically all areas. Eight political parties and one block have presented their nominations – Republican Party of Armenian, Prosperous Armenia Party, Orinats Yerkir, opposition Armenian National Congress, opposition Heritage Party, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, the Communist Party of Armenia, Democratic Party of Armenia and United Armenians Party. For entering the National Assembly, parties must poll over 5% of votes, while blocks - over 7%. The election campaign will be held till May 5 - the day prior to elections when campaigning is banned. The parliamentary elections will be held from 8 am to 8 pm on May 6, 2012.
