YEREVAN. – The number of voters exceeds that of the population in Armenia’s 34 residential areas. Varuzhan Hoktanyan, Director of Transparency International Anti-corruption Center, stated this during a press conference on Thursday, when presenting their monitoring results.

“It was discovered that 1,638 voters in the republic do not have addresses at all. There are cases of bizarre addresses: church yard, etc.,” he noted.

In line with the 2011 data of the demographic compilation, 75 percent of Armenia’s population is voters.

“There was an address where 229 voters were registered. We went and saw that forty homes are registered under one address,” Hoktanyan said.

He expressed a concern that, during Sunday’s parliamentary elections, people could vote instead of those who are in the voting lists but are not in Armenia.

In Varuzhan Hoktanyan’s words, the real problem is the possibility of using inflated voting lists on election day.
